By now you've heard of Global Warming but have you heard of Peak Oil? Peak Oil is an event at which the world production of oil reaches a maximum and begins a slow decline. A large body of geologists believe we have alread reached the peak or will in the next 5 years. Why should you be concerned about Peak Oil and Peak Gas?- Oil is used in almost all our transportation
- There is no scalable viable replacement for oil
- Oil is used heavily in agriculture in herbicides and pesticides
- Home heating oil heats the homes of thousands of canadians
- Natural gas is used to heat millions of Canadian homes, it used in power generation and in fertilizer production.
Demand for oil is increasing as the developing world, particularly India and China, are industrializing. Oil supply has remained stuck just below a conventional oil peak in 2005. Oil prices continue to climb in to record highs and promise to rise much higher. The Conference Board of Canada predicts that oil supply is unlikely to meet demand in the short term and Jeff Rubin at CIBC predicts we will see $100 / barrell oil next year. Domestic natural gas production has already peaked in North America. This website is dedicated to helping you research the issues and make wise choices. Visit our Global Warming and Peak Oil section to find out more about this important issue. The Your House , Renewal Energy , and government grants pages can get you started on becoming more environmentally responsible and more prepared for an uncertain energy future. |
